Here's another case of the technology boogyman. This time, a school in Texas tries to use technology to track students within its walls and parents freak out. What the school is doing is implanting the chips in the children's skulls. What's wrong with that? Ok seriously, they are putting RFID chips in the ID badges that the kids have to wear anyway when at school. These chips can allow a teacher to see which students are in her room, eliminating the need to spend 5 minutes of every class calling roll. Brendan Spaar remembers when Ben Stein called roll in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This wouldn't happen anymore thanks to technology. Why are parents upset about this?
One parent named Jay Stanley says ""What kind of lesson does it teach our children if they're chipped like cattle and their every movement tracked?" What Mr. Stanley fails to realize is that children in school are treated as assets just like inventory at Best Buy. Wouldn't you want the school knowing where your boy or girl was at every moment of the day? What if someone came to the shcool and kidnapped little Jay Jr? The RFID would notify school security immediately that the child had left school property. Let's hope this technology takes off and the boogyman is put back under the bed where he belongs.
